Abstract:

Ubiquitous deployment of embedded systems is having a great impact on our society since they interact with our lives in many critical real-time applications. Typically, those embedded systems used in safety or mission critical applications (e.g., aerospace, avionics, automotive or nuclear cosplay domains) have the design objective to maintain the properties of functional correctness and timeliness even under error occurrences caused by both internal faults and faults originating from the operational environments. This talk will outline the main challenges in designing real-time embedded systems, and present the common approaches towards achieving predictably reliable, safe and timely performance. The talk will also briefly describe the soccer playing robot "AROS" which was built at Mälardalen University for RoboCup 2005, using a safety-critical approach.

Bio:

Hüseyin Aysan is a postdoctoral researcher within the Dependability Group at Mälardalen University. He is currently visiting University of Belgrade under the Erasmus Mundus EUROWEB mobility program. He received his M.Sc. degree in Robotics in 2006, and his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science in 2012 both from Mälardalen University, Sweden. His research interests include, fault-tolerant real-time scheduling, run-time fault-tolerance techniques, and design-time dependability analysis of real-time embedded systems.
